New Zealand Entry Requirements
On arrival in port all yachts will receive the New Zealand Border Agencies information pack 'Arrival of Yachts and Small Craft' This includes various fact sheets from the New Zealand Customs Service, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fishery, the New Zealand Immigration Service and the Maritime Safety Authority of New Zealand. Also included are a number of forms that must be completed. Below is an outline of the processes involved:
New Zealand Customs
All yachts and small craft arriving in New Zealand must comply with all border entry requirements that are in place to protect New Zealand. For further information, see the New Zealand Customs Service website www.customs.govt.nz or contact the New Zealand Customs Service at the following address:

Foodstuffs
Prohibited entry of fresh food and vegetables, dairy products, eggs, honey, meat, poultry, seeds and nuts. Restrictions also apply to some processed foods.
Plant items
Live plant items may be prohibited.
Endangered, threatened or exploited species
Ivory, tortoise shell, whalebone carvings, cat skins, crocodile skin products, horns, tusks.
Artefacts
Artefacts including wooden carvings, shields, spears, basketware, cane bamboo, dried flowers etc will be inspected and may be quarantined for spraying.
Pets
Pets cannot be landed in New Zealand. If a pet is maintained on board the master must enter a bond for the secure custody of any pets. A Quarantine Officer will visit the yacht every 48 hours to ensure that the bond conditions are met - the cost of these inspections will be charged to the yacht. The Quarantine Service must be informed 48 hours in advance if the yacht is to be moved, even for a change in mooring.

Visa Requirements
VISITORS ARRIVING BY SUPERYACHT
A super yacht is considered to be any privately owned yacht over 20 metres in length powered by motor and/or sail.
For those owners and crew of super yachts who must obtain a visitor’s visa, on arrival in New Zealand, you may be granted a permit current for the period specified by your visa (usually six months).
If you are not required to hold a visa you may, on arrival in New Zealand, be granted an initial visitor’s permit valid for three months, or six months if you are a British national.
Persons may be granted further permits allowing a total stay in New Zealand of up to twelve months.
Australian citizens are exempt from the requirement to obtain a visa or hold a permit to be in New Zealand.
Nationals exempt from the requirement to obtain a temporary visa:

1. British citizens and other British passports holders who produce evidence of the right to reside permanently in the United Kingdom.
2. Citizens of the following countries (travelling on a passport of that nationality).
* Portuguese passport holders must have the right to live permanently in Portugal
** including nationals of the USA
*** residents of Hong Kong travelling on Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or British National (Overseas) passports.
3. People travelling on a United Nations (UN) laissez-passer.

All persons who arrive on a private craft and are not departing by commercial transport must provide-
Owners and their dependents: evidence of ownership of the craft and adequate insurance against major damage, or
Crew and passengers: a letter from the craft’s owner or captain confirming that they will be departing on that craft.
